Remote Learning


Dear Parents,  


Thank you so much for the ongoing support that you have shown this term which has helped the children to adjust to the new routines of school life and hopefully enjoy their time back at school.  


We remain in very uncertain times and the threat of having to close a class bubble again in the future, remains an ever-present possibility should the class need to self-isolate due to any positive cases of Covid. We remain vigilant at school with the health and safety measures in place and would appreciate your ongoing support in reiterating at home the important messages about how we can prevent the spread of the virus.  


In the event of our class bubble having to close for an extended period, we would need to revert to children learning remotely and I thought it would be useful to outline what this would look like for year 4. If this does happen, we would be using both Microsoft Teams (for live meetings) and J2E (for the setting of most tasks) as our learning platforms. You would receive an email from myself with a lockdown plan which would outline the format of remote learning for the class and a suggested timetable for each day. On this lockdown plan, I will also include the timings of these live meetings and I will attach instructions to the email of how to access these live meetings via Microsoft Teams.


I plan on carrying out live meetings using Teams for Maths and English where I will explain the task that I want the children to complete. After this live meeting, the children would be expected to complete a task (set on J2Homework or other online platforms that children are familiar with e.g. mymaths). For most lessons, I will provide the answers for the children to mark their own work unless the online platform (e.g. mymaths) marks it for them. The work will be set in the same way that the homework is set now so children should be familiar with this process.  


For afternoon lessons, the activity will be outlined in the lockdown plan and will sometimes involve a live meeting linked to the task. Additionally, I plan to continue sharing our class book with the children and this will either be live or the link will be pre-recorded and emailed to you.  


If for any reason due to illness, I was unable to deliver the plan as outlined above, it would be subject to change and be adapted in light of the circumstances.  


We appreciate that family circumstances will be different and accessing the online learning may bring challenges for some families. In this situation, whilst children would not be able to access the live meetings, paper packs could be provided by school. As always, we would do our very best to support every child with their remote learning.
